Is Meijer Meat Halal?

Answered by Halal Monitoring Services Updated

HMS Certification Status

Not Verified

HMS has not inspected or certified Meijer, so its Halal status is unverified. Do not risk your deen on a doubtful source: avoid it and choose HMS Certified only.

HMS advice Protect your deen. When in doubt, leave it: avoid it and look for HMS Certified only.

What HMS can tell you

Is Meijer HMS certified?

No. HMS has not certified Meijer and has not inspected the slaughter, processing or handling behind the meat sold at Meijer, so HMS cannot confirm that it is Zabiha Halal.

What HMS would need to verify

We certify only what we check. HMS would have to trace the product to a slaughterhouse using trained Muslim slaughterers, hand Zabiha and Bismillah on every animal, then follow it through each processor and distributor that handled it before it reached the display case. Reading why machine slaughter is not Zabiha and product-specific certification shows why the shelf itself proves nothing.

Verify the individual product rather than the retailer: look for the HMS mark on the package and search the HMS certified directory, remembering that certification can cover some products and not others.

Where Zabiha status cannot be established, the HMS advice to consumers is simple: do not eat the meat. Verification exists so that families do not have to rely on guesswork, second-hand reports or a memory of what somebody said several years ago.

Protect your deen: choose HMS Certified only

Do not gamble with your deen. If it is not verified, leave it on the shelf. That is the Prophetic guidance:

“Leave that which causes you doubt for that which does not cause you doubt.”

Until HMS can confirm this product, the safe path for a Muslim is to avoid it and buy HMS Certified only, where the meat is traced from the slaughterhouse to the counter. Find an HMS Certified place near you.
