Why the brand name is not enough
HMS certifies only what it checks. A permissible species is only the starting point: the animal must be slaughtered by hand Zabiha while alive, with Bismillah pronounced for each animal, and the Halal identity must then be protected through grinding, processing and packing. why machine slaughter is not Zabiha and ground beef and processing explain why processed products need both the meat source and the process verified.
Certification can cover only certain products or production lines, so look for the HMS mark on the specific package and verify the product in the HMS certified directory rather than trusting a familiar label.
HMS certification is also time limited, so even a certified business has to keep meeting the conditions it was granted under. Check that the entry you are relying on is current rather than trusting a photograph of a certificate or an old social-media post.
When in doubt, leave it
Do not gamble with your deen. If it is not verified, leave it on the shelf. That is the Prophetic guidance:
“Leave that which causes you doubt for that which does not cause you doubt.”
