Has HMS inspected Sweetgreen?
No. HMS does not certify Sweetgreen and has not inspected its supply chain, which means HMS cannot confirm that the chicken and meat served at Sweetgreen is Zabiha Halal. That is a statement about what HMS has verified, not a description of the business.
Why HMS will not guess
The HMS rule is simple: we certify only what we check. Meat becomes Halal through valid hand Zabiha on a permissible animal, with Bismillah pronounced individually, and it stays Halal only while it travels through approved and monitored hands. A menu note or an app category does not show any of that, as Halal labels on delivery apps and when chicken actually counts as Halal explain.
HMS publishes every certified location, so a certified Sweetgreen address would be searchable in the HMS directory today.
HMS certification is also time limited, so even a certified business has to keep meeting the conditions it was granted under. Check that the entry you are relying on is current rather than trusting a photograph of a certificate or an old social-media post.
When in doubt, leave it
Convenience is never a reason to eat what is doubtful. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Leave that which causes you doubt for that which does not cause you doubt.”
Protect your deen: avoid Sweetgreen and look for HMS Certified only. A certified restaurant has had its meat, suppliers and kitchen checked, so you can eat with a clear heart. Find an HMS Certified place near you before you order.
