What HMS can tell you
Has HMS certified Red Lobster?
HMS does not certify Red Lobster and has not inspected its kitchens, suppliers or ingredients, so HMS cannot confirm that the food served at Red Lobster meets HMS requirements.
Why seafood alone does not settle it
Fish is permissible and does not require Zabiha slaughter, but a restaurant meal is more than its headline ingredient. Sauces, marinades, cooking wine, shared fryers and any chicken or beef dishes all matter, and meat is Halal only through valid hand Zabiha with Bismillah on each animal. See fish and how it is prepared and wine used in cooking. HMS certifies only what it checks, and it has not checked this chain.
Certification is granted per location, so a certified Red Lobster restaurant would appear in the HMS certified directory.
The safest habit is a simple one: check first, then order. The HMS directory is free to search, it shows what each certification actually covers, and it is kept up to date as businesses are certified, renewed or removed for non-compliance.
Protect your deen: choose HMS Certified only
The Prophet ﷺ gave us the rule for exactly this situation:
“Leave that which causes you doubt for that which does not cause you doubt.”
Our advice is clear: avoid Red Lobster until its Halal status has been verified. What you eat becomes part of your body and of your worship, and no meal is worth risking your deen for. Eat only where the claim has actually been checked. Find an HMS Certified place near you and choose HMS Certified only.
Answers in the Halal Knowledge Center reflect the standards followed by Halal Monitoring Services (HMS), which operates as part of the Shariah Board of America. HMS certifies only what it checks.
