What HMS can tell you
Is Jersey Mike's HMS certified?
No. HMS does not certify Jersey Mike's, and HMS has not inspected the slaughterhouses, processors or distributors that stand behind the meat served at Jersey Mike's. HMS cannot confirm that it is Zabiha Halal.
The standard HMS applies
We certify only what we check. For meat that means a permissible animal, slaughtered by hand Zabiha while it is alive, with Bismillah pronounced for each animal, and an unbroken chain of approved suppliers afterwards. Word of mouth, a review or a delivery listing cannot establish it, as shared deep fryers and how to check a restaurant properly set out.
Certification is issued per location and can be limited to particular products, so any certified Jersey Mike's location would be shown in the HMS certified directory.
If you ever see the HMS name or mark connected with this business, check it against the directory before you rely on it. An entry that is not there has not been confirmed by HMS, and you are welcome to contact HMS about anything that looks unclear.
Protect your deen: choose HMS Certified only
The Prophet ﷺ gave us the rule for exactly this situation:
“Leave that which causes you doubt for that which does not cause you doubt.”
Our advice is clear: avoid Jersey Mike's until its Halal status has been verified. What you eat becomes part of your body and of your worship, and no meal is worth risking your deen for. Eat only where the claim has actually been checked. Find an HMS Certified place near you and choose HMS Certified only.
Answers in the Halal Knowledge Center reflect the standards followed by Halal Monitoring Services (HMS), which operates as part of the Shariah Board of America. HMS certifies only what it checks.
