The full answer
Zabiha is the Islamic method of slaughtering animals that Muslims are permitted to eat.
Under HMS standards, the animal must be alive at slaughter, the appropriate passages of the throat must be cut, a qualified Muslim performs the slaughter, and “Bismillah, Allahu Akbar” is said before each individual animal.
Zabiha is not simply a label. It is a specific religious process.
Answers in the Halal Knowledge Center reflect the standards followed by Halal Monitoring Services (HMS), which operates as part of the Shariah Board of America. HMS certifies only what it checks.
