Is Whataburger Halal?

Answered by Halal Monitoring Services Updated

HMS Certification Status

Not Verified

HMS has not inspected or certified Whataburger, so its Halal status is unverified. Do not risk your deen on a doubtful source: avoid it and choose HMS Certified only.

HMS advice Protect your deen. When in doubt, leave it: avoid it and look for HMS Certified only.

What HMS can tell you

Is Whataburger HMS certified?

No. Whataburger does not hold HMS certification, and no HMS inspector has followed the meat served at Whataburger back through the chain that supplies it. Without that work, HMS has no basis on which to confirm the meat is Zabiha Halal.

What HMS can and cannot say

HMS speaks only for what it has checked, which is the meaning of we certify only what we check. For meat to be Halal the animal must be of a permissible species and slaughtered by hand Zabiha, with Bismillah said over every single animal. A verbal assurance, an online listing or a printed word does not demonstrate that, as what a Halal sign really proves and Halal labels on delivery apps show.

Certification covers one address at a time. If a Whataburger location ever held it, that exact address would be published in the HMS directory for anyone to check.

If you would like to see that change, encourage the business to approach HMS. Certification and monitoring are provided free of charge as a community service, so cost is not a barrier for any business that wants to offer monitored hand-Zabiha meat.

Protect your deen: choose HMS Certified only

The Prophet ﷺ gave us the rule for exactly this situation:

“Leave that which causes you doubt for that which does not cause you doubt.”

Our advice is clear: avoid Whataburger until its Halal status has been verified. What you eat becomes part of your body and of your worship, and no meal is worth risking your deen for. Eat only where the claim has actually been checked. Find an HMS Certified place near you and choose HMS Certified only.
